Who is celebrating Obazee sack?

Obviously, some people whose feathers may have been ruffled or hands forcefully removed from the pie are basking in euphoria following the removal of Pastor Jim Obazee from the Financial Reporting Council.

The temptation to celebrate the downfall of someone whose actions have caused sleepless nights in recent times may be too powerful to resist. Some may even go as far as organizing a special thanksgiving for 'what the lord has done' for them in taking Obazee out. And biblical verses will be quoted to justify why the sacking of the man who had held top religious leaders in the country on the jugular for long, should be well celebrated. Th arch-enemy of the church.

However, they will ignore fundamental teachings in bible on treatment of our enemies.

Proverbs 24:17 ESV: "Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumble".

Luke 6:27-36 adds: “But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them."

The bible is littered with instructions on handling this kind of situation. One would have expected that those who would benefit immensely from Obazee's sack and suspension of the FRC codes on non-profit organization should have rejected his head offered on a golden saucer.

Even though Mr. Obazee may have overacted his powers and chose to go after the powerful religious leaders during his controversial reign, his victims should have taken it cool, in exemplary imitation of Jesus Christ who forgo earthly things and focus on heavenly mission.

But, they are not cast in Christ mould. They want to enjoy the riches and glory of this planet while also eyeing heaven. They are so desperate to feather their nests that anybody and anything that threatens that stands to be crushed.

Obazee is the victim of religious power play and those who view him as an enemy and celebrating his fall from grace deserve our sympathy. It's unchristian to gloat over his sack. And the nation will definitely lose more than it gains from this high-handed political pandering.
